Dr. Rather G. Brown Scholarship Application

The Dr. Rather G. Brown scholarships are based primarily on scholarship merit and leadership potential. Each scholarship is granted in the amount of $2,500 toward the ensuing academic year. Local high school seniors and current AAMU students are encouraged to apply.

Two letters of recommendation on official letterhead are required to complete your application..

HIGH SCHOOL Applicants: You must provide a letter of recommendation from a high school counselor or teacher, AND a letter of recommendation from a person in the community of your choice (clergy, mentor, coach, advisor, supervisor).

ALL letters of recommendation must be on official letterhead, mailed and postmarked by the closing date of application to be considered for the scholarship.

Prepare an essay that addresses the following topic: Explain the significant role Alabama A&M University plays in the Huntsville/Madison County community highlighting specific ways you have experienced this role on the local, state or national level.

• Proof of Acceptance – ALL Scholarship Winners (Must present Verification of Enrollment Certificate prior to award disbursement)

I understand and affirm that ALL documents submitted become the property of the scholarship committee and are not subject to review or return. The content of this application is true and may be screened for authenticity by the reviewing officials.

Additionally, this application will not be considered for award if all required materials (application, letters of recommendation, transcripts and ACT scores, if applicable) have not been received by the screening committee prior to the scholarship application closing date of March 13, 2026.
